If you're coming from out of town, remember to bring your swim suits because we're near two world-famous beach towns!
The first is Newport Beach, where you can lie on the beach all day, go sailing, or mingle with the sophisticates. For fun-in-the-sun daytime adventures, go to Balboa Island, where you can rollerblade on the boardwalk and have cotton candy. If you're coming with that special someone, you won't want to miss the romantic gondola cruises in the evenings (more details on what's included in a gondola cruise here).
The second is Laguna Beach - an artsy beach community and one of Johannes' and Christina's favorite places to go when they're in town. You can do everything from snorkeling and diving to visiting museums and art galleries, to simply taking a walk on the beach with ice creams in hand.
If you have the whole day to spare, take a ferry out to Catalina Island and step back in time to a place where all the townsfolk know each other by name and families never lock their doors. Johannes and Christina try to make it there every summer for an annual swing dance camp.
If you're in town to shop, here are some places to check out: South Coast Plaza (indoor, one of the most complete collection of designer stores), Fashion Island (outdoor atrium style, beautifully landscaped), Main Place, Irvine Spectrum (specialty stores and movie theater), The Block (entertainment and shopping all in one), and Universal Studios Hollywood: City Walk (specialty stores with Hollywood focus).
Hopefully, there are enough suggestions here for everyone. If you have any specific questions or would like more detailed information, please either call the vendors/visitor centers, or call us and we will be more than happy to give you our take on the attractions!
Lastly, (and this is especially important for those who are coming from places with "unideal" weather conditions) enjoy the sun sun sun - one of the best and most reliable things about being in California!
